Special Solution – SENNEBOGEN 830 Electro Crawler at K+S

The K+S Group is one of the world’s leading groups supplying special and standard fertilisers, plant care and salt products. K+S GmbH is the leading European potash producer for agricultural fertilisers containing potash and magnesium and technical salts for the processing industry. In the course of a comprehensive renovation of the 12,000 t silo at the Unterbreizbach facility, an investment was made in a SENNEBOGEN 830 crawler with an electrical motor for the so-called rapid elimination technique.

What is meant here is the addition of stored crude salt into the production flow in order to guarantee continuous production. „The previous rail-bound unit did not have the performance to meet today‘s requirements. With the new SENNEBOGEN 830 we can achieve 200 tons an hour – a plus of 30 % compared to the equipment we used before“ explains Norbert Raschka, production manager.

The temperature in the largely sealed-off hall is around 40° C with extremely low humidity – a prerequisite for the storage of crude salt. The 132 kW electric motor is the best possible solution for this kind of use in particular. No emissions in the hall, no time required for refuelling and the great quietness in operation are important criteria that made their mark here. To achieve the necessary flexibility in the hall, the responsible SENNEBOGEN sales and service partner Louis Scheuch GmbH attached a special 70 m cable drum to the telescopic crawler under carriage. This unique solution perfectly fitted the special K+S requirements.

The SENNEBOGEN 830 R Electro takes up the material with a 2 m broad trenching spoon that holds 1.5 m³ and adds it to the downstream production process via shafts in the ground and conveyor belts. The 9.4 m banana boom, in combination with a 6 m stick, gives an action radius that is optimally fitted to the requirements.

Those responsible at K+S particularly appreciate the work safety given by the high-rise maXcab comfort cab, which can be raised to a 5 m viewing height. This permits caking of the salt at the tip of the dump to be dissolved without danger to man or machine. „With the new SENNEBOGEN 830 R we’re perfectly equipped for product and materials handling in our 12,000-ton silo”, explained Helmut Thenert, technical manager at the Unterbreizbach facility.
