The SENNEBOGEN 735 MHD transports and loads tons of timber

At the Rostock Cargo and Fishery Port (Rostocker Fracht- und Fischereihafen), around 800,000 tons of bulk and general cargo are handled each year. Since February 2012, the operators here have been relying on a SENNEBOGEN 735 MH-D for timber handling. The Pick & Carry machine is used both for loading round timber onto wagons, as well as supplying and sorting the warehouse.

The Cargo and Fishery Port (Rostocker Fracht- und Fischereihafen RFH) as we know it today developed from the base port of the former Rostock Fishing Combine and was restructured into a transshipping port through major infrastructure measures implemented from 1992 onwards. RFH has now made a name for itself in particular in the field of timber handling. Up to 2500 cubic meters have to be unloaded every day and prepared for transport. The people responsible for the decision to use the SENNEBOGEN 735 MH-D in this process for transporting and sorting the timber have not regretted their choice for a second. "Before we chose the Pick&Carry machine, we even had to turn ships away on some occasions because our warehouses were full", explains Henry Nitschke, Head of Technology at RFH. Bauma Rent delivered the new machine in February. Now the stored timber logs can be moved quickly to the second row to create more storage capacity. A visible benefit that helps us work quicker and more efficiently.

With around 400 ships each year, timber is delivered to Rostock Port as a raw material for the paper industry up to four times per week. The SENNEBOGEN 735 is therefore equipped with a 3.2 sqm timber grab from HGT as standard. The timber is transported by wagon to Europe's largest pulp factory in Stendal. But it's not just timber that's delivered to the Rostock Cargo and Fishery Port. Bulk goods, pig iron or project shipments also form part of the everyday business. In these tasks too, the SENNEBOGEN 735 has the chance to show off its strengths. If the machine is needed in another area, it can be switched over in no time. 12 grabs and hooks are available in total.

The thing that sets the 735 apart from other material handling machines is its manoeuvrability and the possibility of travelling even longer distances under load. The 735 M-HD is specially designed as a driving and transport machine and moves heavy loads. With its all-wheel steering system and travelling speeds of up to 20 km/h, it can transport and store timber optimally on both spacious transshipment areas and in tight spaces. These factors played a major role when making the decision. "There are few machines on the market that offer such individual usage and multifunctionality", stresses Nitschke.

RFH has been relying on SENNEBOGEN quality for eight years. Another important factor is the high availability of the machine, as it doesn't do to keep ships waiting. The team in Rostock is extremely satisfied with the service provided by Bauma Rent and is full of praise for the rapid delivery of spare parts and competent on-site consultation. Six drivers in total take turns working with the machine. It is essential that each of them can get their bearings quickly. With the comfort cab offering optimal all-around vision and noise protection insulation, the driver not only enjoys an optimal working environment, but can also monitor all important device and engine functions from inside the cab. One aspect of the SENNEBOGEN 735 did take a while for the port workers to get used to, however. "A material handling machine that can lift heavy loads and still travel under load attracted quite a lot of interest", explains port manager Ralf Westphahl. The drivers and port managers have now been completely won over. "I think it was the right decision to invest in an additional material handling machine like this one. The goal is to return Rostock Cargo and Fishery Port to an annual handling throughput of one million tons. The SENNEBOGEN 735 M-HD will help us achieve this goal", states Daniele Priebe, Manager at RFH.

Statement:

"The SENNEBOGEN 735 is ideal for travelling back and forth between the ships and the warehouse. It took a while for our drivers to get used to driving under load, but now they all praise the good handling." Ralf Westphahl, Port Manager RFH
