Tandem lift with 180 tonne crawler crane

The SENNEBOGEN 5500 E crawler crane has impressively demonstrated its versatility and performance in the Straubing-Sand harbour. The 180-tonne crawler crane played a key role in the challenging loading of SENNEBOGEN material handlers onto a barge in order to handle this complex process safely and efficiently and to support sustainable logistics.

Ten large machines successfully loaded onto barges

SENNEBOGEN successfully loaded a total of ten large machines onto barges in collaboration with the forwarding company Karl-Groß from Regensburg and the forwarding company K. Altmann from Prackenbach to transport them from the port of Straubing-Sand to North America, Turkey and Israel. The loading was an enormous logistical and technical challenge, as some of the machine components weighed over 100 tonnes. Ten SENNEBOGEN machines with a total weight of 1400 tonnes were loaded over a total of three days. Thanks to special planning, innovative lifting technology and close cooperation with the port of Straubing, the construction machines were loaded smoothly.

Teamwork: Tandem lift for particularly heavy loads

Together with its auxiliary cranes, the crawler crane with a lifting capacity of 200 tonnes lifted a total load of over 1000 tonnes.

A tandem lift with two cranes was required for the particularly complex and heavy lifts. The cooperation between the two cranes enabled an even weight distribution and minimised the load. The particular challenge here was to lift the machines into the barge without any interruptions or jolts. In order to be able to lift the machines to be loaded, temporary road closures had to be coordinated and counterweights had to be dismantled and then reassembled after loading.

The loading of eight handling machines, which took place within one day, was also a considerable task. “The first machines were loaded as early as 7 a.m., and by midday seven machines had been safely stowed away,” reports Roland Hermann, Head of Customs and Foreign Trade Machine Shipping at SENNEBOGEN.

Stable crawler crane with flexible undercarriage

The SENNEBOGEN 5500 crawler crane loading the star undercarriage of the SENNEBOGEN 9300 with a weight of over 110 tonnes.

This mammoth loading project not only required strength, but also a precise approach, as work had to be carried out in a very confined space. Thanks to its robust design and the flexibility of the crawler undercarriage, the 5500 E was able to provide the necessary stability to move the machines safely. At the same time, its precise controls and hydraulics ensured that the sensitive positioning of the handling machines could be managed without incident. The machine components were first lifted safely and then placed on the deck of the transport ship with millimeter precision. This application underlines the versatility and reliability of the SENNEBOGEN 5500 E crane, which has proven itself in both building construction and civil engineering as well as in heavy-duty logistics.

Crane of superlatives: no weight is a problem

The 5500 E crawler crane impresses with a maximum load capacity of up to 200 tonnes and a boom length of up to 104 meters, making it particularly versatile. With its robust crawler undercarriage, it offers maximum stability on any surface. In addition to its impressive lifting capacity and functionality, the crawler crane also offers high efficiency and environmental friendliness. The modern drive technology ensures low fuel consumption and low emissions - another advantage that played a role in this project, as sustainable logistics solutions are becoming increasingly important.

New crane in the near future

The 5500 crawler crane is to be replaced by an even more powerful 7700 crawler crane in Straubing harbour next year. This will have a dead weight of approx. 300 tonnes and will be able to lift up to 227 tonnes of load at a radius of 7 meters. At a radius of 12 meters, the lifting capacity will be around 112 tonnes. The ideal upgrade for even larger crane applications.

Klaus Altmann, owner and managing director of the forwarding company of the same name at the port of Straubing-Sand, says: “Our cooperation with the port of Straubing-Sand and Sennebogen enables us to fulfil the high demands of our customers efficiently. The new 7700 crawler crane will give us even greater flexibility and capacity to carry out even the most complex transport operations safely.”
