One machine does it all at Forst Möller – The SENNEBOGEN 718 Energy

Since 2011, Forst Möller has been using its SENNEBOGEN 718 Energy with resounding success to fell problem trees and in forestry management. The telescoping forest crane recently performed its most difficult job yet: Felling and cutting cottonwood trees with trunks up to a diameter of 2 meters on the floodplain of the river Rhine near Darmstadt.

What nature can produce over a short period is truly impressive. The cottonwood trees lining a well-loved hiking path along the Rhine floodplain are only 60 years old. But thanks to excellent growing conditions, the diameters of the tree trunks reach as much as two meters. Unfortunately, falling branches from the giant trees pose a danger to the public. Forstbetrieb Möller, based in the Westphalian town of Willingen, was assigned the job of creating safe conditions for users of the path by felling and recycling the trees. This gave the versatile SENNEBOGEN 718 the chance to demonstrate the full range of its abilities, from tree care to felling. With a Holp grapple saw and a 13 meter cantilever arm, thick branches can be safely and precisely grasped and removed. The 4-finger Hultings grapple, which takes only moments to fit, moves trunks and branches to the edge of the path and feeds them to the chipper. After several days of rain, the embankment becomes slippery and difficult to navigate. However, the stable and wide single tires on the 718 provide stability even on impassable ground. The robust undercarriage of the SENNEBOGEN with 2-point support and a support plate evenly distributes the load and stays put even under maximum loads. Matthias Möller on the advantages of the machine: "The machine stays absolutely rigidly in place. Even when trees need to be felled precisely on difficult-to-navigate, wet ground, the stable undercarriage and 13 meter reach allow you to get the job done."

The current job involves accurately felling and recycling around 50 trees. Overall, Möller calculates that 30,000 loose cubic meters of wood will be generated, cut along a two-kilometer stretch of path. The machine provides support when felling trees leaning the wrong way, and in other difficult situations. To keeps trees on course after cutting them with the chainsaw, Möller gives them a quick but gentle push in the right direction with the telescoping arm. The operator always has a full view of his surroundings from the elevating cab, 4.8 m above ground. Matthias Möller does not only use the machine on rough terrain. He frequently uses the telescoping forest crane on roads and highways, where it is highly effective but also space-efficient, thanks to its compact size (rear end radius: 2.3 m). Weighing only 19.5 tons, the SENNEBOGEN 718 is also very easy to transport. Möller drives short distances in the machine itself at speeds up to 22 km/h; a normal flatbed truck is used for longer distances.

Statement:

"The SENNEBOGEN 718 is the perfect machine for felling problem trees and harvesting wood for fuel. Its high stability and reliable and powerful hydraulic system make it a truly multi-purpose machine, for both road and forest use." (Matthias Möller, owner of Forst Möller)
