The port of Diler Demir Celik in Hereke, Türkiye, operated by Diler Holding, is one of the country’s most important hubs for handling scrap metal. With seven berths and roughly 41,000 m² of storage space, up to six million tons of various materials are moved here every year. To reliably and efficiently manage these demanding volumes, the port relies on nine SENNEBOGEN 870 E port material handlers.
Diler Holding, a Turkish conglomerate, is active in the steel and iron industry, energy, real estate, ports, banking, and tourism. One of the two ports in Hereke serves as a central hub for importing steel scrap from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, supplying the company’s own steel mill. In addition to scrap, goods such as coils and general cargo are also handled. Key export markets for the produced steel include Albania, Romania, the United Kingdom, and North Africa.
A typical vessel carrying 4,500 tons of scrap is fully unloaded within 24 hours. A total of 16 operators working in three shifts, seven days a week, ensures an annual handling capacity of around six million tons - made possible by the high efficiency and reliability of the SENNEBOGEN material handlers.
In recent years, Diler Demir Celik has continuously invested in modern SENNEBOGEN technology: five 870 E machines arrived in 2022, followed by four more in 2024. All machines are identically equipped for maximum serviceability and operating flexibility:
| Crawler undercarriage | Low ground pressure and excellent mobility |
| 26-meter equipment length | Long reach deep into the ship's hold |
| 4-meter pylon | Raised working position for optimal visibility and movement |
| Orange peel grab from Rotobec | Efficient handling of steel scrap |
| MaxCab driver's cab with Skylift | Ergonomic, safe and comfortable work environment |
| Camera on the boom | Perfect view of the grab and material |
| Safe access concept | Maximum safety in daily operations |
The SENNEBOGEN 870 E is powered by efficient 250 kW electric motors, that are connected to the 6 kV power grid via a cable reel. For mobility between the piers, each machine is equipped with a Powerpack that allows full operation even without an external electrical supply. This ensures maximum flexibility and prevents extended vessel laytimes, even in the event of power outages.
Before switching to the modern 870 E models, Diler Demir Celik operated five SENNEBOGEN 835 and two 870 material handlers, which had proved their reliability since the year 2000. With the move to the larger port machines, handling performance increased, energy efficiency improved, and maintenance costs decreased. A key factor here is the SENNEBOGEN Green Hybrid energy recovery system, which reduces operating costs by up to 50 %.
Diler Demir Celik trusts the experienced SENNEBOGEN sales partner Forsen Makina for maintenance and support. With the nearby service center in Gebze, technicians can be on site quickly when needed – a decisive factor for maximum machine availability.
Efficient in use, reliable in operation, and individually tailored to the requirements of the port in Hereke – the nine SENNEBOGEN 870 E machines are a key factor in Diler Demir Celik's success. Combined with the excellent support provided by Forsen Makina, the port is well prepared for further growth and long-term competitiveness.
