Since early 2025, August Oppermann Kiesgewinnungs- und Vertriebs GmbH has been operating a new SENNEBOGEN 855 E Hybrid material handler at its Vienenburg gravel plant in Lower Saxony – with impressive performance and half the fuel consumption.
August Oppermann GmbH is a long-established company with over 150 years of experience in the extraction and processing of natural raw materials. With around 30 locations and 120 employees, the company is represented in Lower Saxony, Hesse, Thuringia, and Saxony-Anhalt and stands for high-quality building materials such as sand, gravel, limestone, and greywacke—always with a focus on environmentally friendly processes.
On January 28, 2025, the new SENNEBOGEN 855 E Hybrid was officially put into operation at the Vienenburg gravel plant. Since then, the material handler has taken over primary gravel extraction at the site – with outstanding results. Equipped with a powerful 237 kW diesel engine, a 21-meter equipment length, and a 2.45 m³ bucket, the machine achieves remarkable performance: up to 200 tons of gravel per hour and 1,500 tons per day in single-shift operation. This means the new material handler outperforms a comparable duty cycle crane with clamshell bucket.
Particularly impressive is the low fuel consumption: despite the demanding task, the 855 E Hybrid consumes only about 24 liters per hour – around 60 % less than its predecessor. This saves August Oppermann GmbH around 72 tons of CO2 annually. In addition to the efficient engine, the SENNEBOGEN Green Hybrid recuperation system contributes significantly to reducing consumption. When the boom is lowered, an additional hydraulic cylinder combined with nitrogen piston accumulators stores energy, which is then reused for the next lifting movement.
The new material handler has been specially designed to meet the requirements of gravel extraction. Its crawler undercarriage ensures both secure stability on loose ground and maximum mobility within the plant. With its long equipment, the SENNEBOGEN 855 E Hybrid achieves a working depth of up to 12 meters – ideal for dredging gravel.
The Maxcab operator's cab can be raised hydraulically up to 3 meters and offers the driver optimum visibility in every situation. Equipped with armored glass, it guarantees maximum safety. Sun blinds, Bluetooth, DAB radio, and modern air conditioning provide additional comfort.
The machine also impresses in terms of user-friendliness: thanks to its intuitive joystick controls, no special training is required – any excavator operator can control the 855 E directly.
August Oppermann GmbH was supported in acquiring the new material handler by SENNEBOGEN’s sales and service partner Schlüter Baumaschinen. Karsten König, Managing Director for Technology and Mining, expressed his satisfaction:
