In this interview, Alexandra Leibl talks about her career at SENNEBOGEN - from her apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, which she completed as the best in her exams and thus became part of a remarkable series of 13 consecutive best exams at SENNEBOGEN, to her current role as Regional Advisor in Technical Support.
I actually came across the profession of precision mechanic by chance. At first, I thought an office job would be just right for me - "That's it", was my thought at the time. But after an internship in an office, I realized that I wanted to do more, that I wanted to "do" something. I wanted to learn a trade where I could get actively involved. At a careers fair, I found out about training to become a precision mechanic. There was a workpiece there that totally fascinated me.
I think the diversity and the strong team spirit at SENNEBOGEN were the main reasons for my success. The tasks were much more varied than what I had heard from my colleagues - that really challenged and encouraged me. But what helped me the most was the team spirit among us trainees. We supported each other, especially during the intensive exam phase. During the preparation phase, where we milled and turned components to practice, the support from our trainer, Mr. Limmer, was particularly valuable - as were the group learning sessions.
After successfully completing my apprenticeship, my former trainer was contacted by my current line manager. I was then offered a job in technical customer support for the Green Line machines. To be honest, my first reaction was: "Office? I'm not going there - that's not for me". But after a few days of trial work, I realized that I really enjoyed the job - and so I accepted the position. At the same time, I'm currently training to become a mechanical engineering technician. I realize that my learning curve is really steep right now.
My path is certainly not the classic one for a precision mechanic, but that's exactly what appealed to me. I found the work in technical support exciting right from the start and consciously wanted to take on a new challenge. Of course, learning the ropes was - and still is - not easy, the process is long and demanding. But I get really good support from my colleagues, and that helps me enormously to keep going and develop further.
Just go for it and don't let it get you down! You should never think that you're worse at something just because you're a woman. If you are interested in technology, then you should have the courage to give it a try. I still remember the Girls' Day at SENNEBOGEN - that was a real highlight for me. That's why I can only advise every young woman: Take advantage of opportunities like this to try things out and find out what you enjoy.
For me, it's definitely the solidarity - the family feeling that you simply feel at SENNEBOGEN. The team spirit, the respect and the support among each other make SENNEBOGEN special for me.
MOVE BIG THINGS.
Thank you for the interesting interview Alexandra Leibl. The entire SENNEBOGEN team wishes you every success in your new position!
