Use at a World Heritage site: SENNEBOGEN 608 Multicrane used for restoration of the Stone Bridge

Built in the 12th century the Stone Bridge spans the Danube as the most significant emblem of the city of Regensburg. In the course of the protracted restoration work STRABAG is successfully using a new SENNEBOGEN 608 Multicrane for various lifting and construction tasks.

Although the historic structure of the city was built within just eleven years, between 1135 and 1146, the restoration tasks for the Stone Bridge at Regensburg have already been underway for three years and are not expected to be completed until the end of 2017. Currently the existing access ramp to the, Oberen Wöhrd municipal area is being rebuilt. This is where STRABAG AG - Roding Branch has recently been using a new SENNEBOGEN 608 Multicrane as a construction site crane.

The access ramp that connects the historic bridge to the Oberer Wöhrd district, will be rebuilt in the second construction phase of the restoration. A massive steel construction rests on the stone foundation as basic scaffold. Subsequently the formwork for the bridge body will be installed and concrete will be poured. STRABAG relies on the flexible SENNEBOGEN telescopic crawler crane for the varied lifting and support tasks. Equipped with a 91 kW diesel engine, and thanks to the compact dimensions and convenient all-wheel steering, the mobile machine is particularly well-suited for this deployment site, which is located between the two arms of the river. At a height of just 3.15 m and a width of 2.55 m the machine is easy to move and can also be used under the narrow arches of the bridge.

The factory standard comfortable elevating Multicab offers an ideal overview of the work area and the highest level of safety. From a height of 4.10 m, driver Erich Aschenbrenner has an excellent view of the load on the hook and thus can precisely place the necessary materials. Currently the 8 t winch is primarily in use and lifts formwork elements and the cement bucket onto the bridge access. Additional attachments make the 608 a genuine multicrane. An elevating work platform with a maximum payload of 800 kg that can be pivoted 360° supports construction workers in installing the individual bridge components and offers a safe stance and convenient work conditions at heights up to 20 m. The implementation possibilities of the SENNEBOGEN 608 are extremely varied. Equipped with lift fork, crane boom, or shovel, the machine provides valuable support on every construction site.

In Regensburg, after just a few weeks the project team is already impressed with the versatility and convenient operation of the new machine. In addition to flexibility and reliability, the machine also gets high marks for easy maintenance and the ergonomic and comfortable Multicab. As the local Sales and Service Partner, IBS Baumaschinen GmbH, handles the regular service as the competent contact on site.

"The maneuverability and the variety of attachments offered by the new SENNEBOGEN 608 Multicrane are excellently suited for our requirements at this construction site. Construction site supervisor, Alexander Schmuderer (right), and driver, Erich Aschenbrenner, of the STRABAG AG Roding branch agree, "The high reach and a powerful winch combined with compact dimensions make the SENNEBOGEN telescopic crane unique".
