How can more material be moved faster and more safely in a confined recycling yard? Green Recycling in Maldon, Essex, uses two SENNEBOGEN 360 G telehandlers to achieve this. The machines combine high lifting capacity and lifting height with an elevating cab. In daily operation, the time required to load a glass truck has been reduced from more than 30 minutes to around 7 minutes.

Green Recycling has been processing waste and recyclable materials for commercial customers and local authorities in South East England for around three decades. However, as material volumes increased, internal logistics at the company's headquarters in Maldon began to reach their limits. Machines frequently had to travel between collection and processing halls, increasing traffic and creating additional travel distances within the confined recycling yard.
The existing agricultural telehandlers were no longer able to handle the workload efficiently. Green Recycling therefore needed a solution that would shorten loading cycles, move more material per operation and give operators better visibility of the machine, the material and their surroundings.
Green Recycling's management team became aware of SENNEBOGEN's material handling solutions at bauma. Working with regional equipment partner Molson Green, the company added two SENNEBOGEN 360 G telehandlers to its fleet. The machines are used for material transport, feeding operations and loading high-sided trucks.
To meet the specific operational requirements, the telehandlers were equipped with a 5.6 m³ bucket with a material clamp and a 3.0 m³ bucket respectively. A Kobelco SK75 mobile excavator with a Kinshofer D16 sorting grab complements the equipment for sorting operations.
The SENNEBOGEN 360 G combines lifting capacity, lifting height and excellent visibility for material handling operations. This allows Green Recycling to use large buckets while maintaining a clear view of loading areas and traffic movements throughout the yard.
Technical performance figures in practical use:
Green Recycling integrated the new combination of machines into its existing operations at the Maldon facility. The two 360 G telehandlers perform different tasks using the appropriate buckets, while the mobile excavator supports the sorting process. According to Yard Manager Colin Ashley, operator feedback has been consistently positive after six months of operation.
The machines reduce the number of loading cycles and allow more material to be moved per operation. At the same time, the elevating cab improves visibility across the confined recycling yard. According to the company, more precise material handling also supports quality control and helps reduce contamination of valuable recyclable materials.
The clearest evidence of improved performance is the time required to load a glass truck. The process now takes around 7 minutes, compared with more than 30 minutes previously. This represents a time saving of at least 23 minutes per loading operation. For Green Recycling, this means shorter loading cycles, higher material throughput and fewer machine movements around the recycling yard.
"Our old agricultural telehandlers simply couldn't keep up with the workload. Now we can load a glass truck in around seven minutes, compared with more than 30 minutes before. That efficiency makes the biggest difference. We've reduced loading cycles, moved more material and made the entire site a much safer place to work. We've had the machines for six months now, and the feedback from our operators has been consistently positive."
Colin Ashley, Yard Manager at Green Recycling
Molson Green supported Green Recycling throughout the process, from machine selection and configuration to after-sales service. According to Thomas McKiver, Sales Director at Molson Green, the focus was on providing a solution tailored to the company's specific operational requirements. Green Recycling particularly values the ongoing support with spare parts and maintenance.
"From start to finish, the Molson Group team has impressed us with their attention to detail and responsiveness. They genuinely care about helping our business achieve its goals, from quality processing to improved sustainability. Not only have they supplied SENNEBOGEN machines that are perfectly suited to our operations, but they have also continued to provide excellent support with spare parts and maintenance."
– Jamie Smith, Operations Director at Green Recycling
For Green Recycling, the two SENNEBOGEN 360 G telehandlers therefore provide the foundation for faster material flow within a limited operating area. As a next editorial step, reliable fuel consumption, maintenance or total cost of ownership (TCO) data should be added as soon as they become available. This would allow the economic benefits to be demonstrated more precisely alongside the already documented time savings.
