SENNEBOGEN showcases semi-autonomous shredder feeding with recycling excavator

At IFAT 2026 in Munich, SENNEBOGEN GmbH presents an innovative showcase for process-optimized material handling in the recycling and biomass industry. As part of the exhibition, the battery-powered material handler 826 G Electro Battery celebrates its world premiere. In combination with the mobile UNTHA XR mobil-e shredder, SENNEBOGEN demonstrates a semi-autonomous feeding process in which both machines communicate directly with each other and actively support material feeding operations.

SENNEBOGEN and UNTHA: Smart Collaboration Between Two Machines

The SENNEBOGEN 824 G precisely feeds the UNTHA XR mobil-e shredder in a test scenario, demonstrating controlled material input within a connected process.

At the VDMA outdoor area in the biomass section, SENNEBOGEN and UNTHA shredding technology GmbH present a practical showcase of intelligent interaction between two machines within a processing workflow. The SENNEBOGEN 826 G Electro Battery takes on the task of feeding the UNTHA XR mobil-e shredder.

The initiative for this joint application was driven by UNTHA, with SENNEBOGEN recognizing the approach at an early stage and actively supporting its implementation. This showcase highlights the company’s openness to partnership-driven innovation and its commitment to advancing new solutions together with technology partners.

Recycling excavators and shredders respond in real time

The key feature of this solution lies in the direct communication between the material handler and the shredder. Both machines exchange signals and respond in real time to the current process status. The handler receives a signal as soon as the shredder is sufficiently fed and no additional material should be supplied. Furthermore, within the defined drop zone above the shredder, the opening of the grab is specifically prevented. This ensures precise material input and enhances operational safety during the feeding process.

SENNEBOGEN 826 G Electro Battery as an intelligent process partner

At the center of the application is the battery-powered SENNEBOGEN 826 G Electro Battery, representing the new G-series. Machines of this generation are designed for efficient material handling and recycling applications, combining high load capacities with extensive reach – demonstrated by the 826 G with up to 13 meters of reach.

Equipped with the intelligent SENcon control system, the machine is ideally suited for assistance and communication-based solutions. At IFAT 2026, this becomes particularly evident: the 826 G Electro Battery acts not only as a powerful material handler, but as an active component within a connected overall process, where real-time data from the shredder is processed and made available to the operator.

Optimized feeding improves performance and supports operators

In daily operations, the quality of shredder feeding depends heavily on factors such as material size, weight, composition, and the current fill level of the system. While experienced operators can assess these parameters, maintaining a consistently optimal feeding process during continuous operation remains a demanding task.

This is precisely where the showcased solution comes into play: through direct communication between the material handler and the shredder, the feeding process is actively supported. The operator receives real-time feedback on the system status, enabling targeted adjustment of material input. Overloading is avoided, downtime is reduced, and throughput is optimized. This not only improves overall performance, but also helps protect the shredding process from unnecessary peak loads.

Emission-free operation and flexible application options

Beyond its role in the connected showcase, the SENNEBOGEN 826 G Electro Battery stands out as a sustainable solution for material handling. Its battery-electric drive enables completely CO₂-emission-free operation while simultaneously reducing operating and maintenance costs.

The modular battery concept allows flexible adaptation to different application requirements, enabling operating times of up to seven hours. Thanks to Dual Power Management, the machine can operate both independently in battery mode and via a wired grid connection. Within the showcase, the shredder is powered by the UNTHA Power Core, enabling a flexible and location-independent operation of the entire process setup.

With this semi-autonomous feeding showcase, SENNEBOGEN demonstrates at IFAT 2026 how modern material handlers can increasingly be integrated into higher-level process chains. The focus is on intelligent operator support, improved process quality, and more efficient use of existing machine capacities.
