Scrap handling at the Szczecin port: Almex places its trust in the tried-and-tested SENNEBOGEN quality

Szczecin, home to the largest port in Poland, is an important gate to the Baltic Sea. Right on the quay close to the historic centre of the city, SENNEBOGEN machines are used to sort and load tons of scrap by customer Almex, a subsidiary of the Scholz Group.

The company was founded at the Szczecin port in 1991 and has belonged to the Scholz Group since 2007. In addition to the traditional scrap trade, the company also focuses on disposing of and recycling non-ferrous metals and batteries. Ship dismantling is also carried out directly at the site. Almex now relies completely on SENNEBOGEN for daily operation and logistics at the scrapyard. Since 2010, the company has successively been replacing the previous machines with new state-of-the-art machines. The newest addition to the fleet, a SENNEBOGEN 835 M special with 1 m pylon attachment, is used directly on the quay. Thanks to the additional elevation, combined with the elevating maXcab comfort cab, ships with a capacity of up to 5000 t can be loaded securely and comfortably. A large proportion of the material collected by the company from within the region from a vicinity of around 150 km, leaves the site by water destined for France and Belgium for further processing. Space is at a premium, particularly when old ships that have reached the end of their service life are at the site for dismantling. The 835 M is perfect for this task thanks to its maximum range of 18 m, which enables it to stack and sort the material to be stored high on the scrap heap. It can also be used later to load incoming ships with widths of up to 14 m.

Tree more SENNEBOGEN machines are also in use at the site, an additional 835 M and also a 825 M and a 830 M, used for dismantling ships and various other tasks. A major advantage of the mobile material handling machines is their enormous flexibility. Equipped with a 800 l HGT grab, the machines supply the 880 t scrap shears in 12-hour operation. Whole ship sections also have to be loaded on a regular basis. In this way, Almex handles around 10,000 t scrap each month. The drivers and managers praise the good service provided by the Polish sales and service partner Bax Baumaschinen in particular. According to Managing Director Andrzey Lewandowski, his company has really come to appreciate the ongoing support over the past two years and is extremely satisfied with the three highly reliable and economical machines. The close proximity to the local service partner in particular guarantees that help is on hand quickly when needed and downtime is kept to a minimum thanks to the easily accessible components and maintenance points.
