At IFAT 2026 in Munich, SENNEBOGEN will unveil its new series of five-shell orange peel grabs, the MG4.1, with capacities ranging from 600 to 1,200 liters. Designed specifically for scrap handling, this series expands the manufacturer’s portfolio in the recycling sector. With over 30 years of experience in material handling, SENNEBOGEN once again delivers a solution in which the machine and attachment are perfectly matched — for maximum performance, high availability, and efficient operation, all from a single manufacturer.
The orange peel grab, first presented at IFAT, is an innovative, new development from SENNEBOGEN that draws on the company’s decades of experience in recycling and scrap handling. Initially, the five-shell orange peel grab will be offered in four different sizes, ranging from 600 to 1,200 liters, and with a variety of shell configurations, from semi-open to fully closed. Custom designs are also available upon request. The choice of shell design is determined by the material being handled. The smaller the particles, the more closed the shell design is recommended.
Developed and built in Straubing, Germany, the manufacturer’s headquarters, the grab reflects SENNEBOGEN’s proven quality. This is already evident in its robust construction: The center crossbeam is made of high-strength cast steel, the grab shells are manufactured from extremely robust Hardox steel, and the pivot points are generously dimensioned, featuring high-strength bolts and bushings. The welded grab tips are extremely durable, as they too are made of high-strength forged steel and have a very high wear resistance, ensuring they last longer than average. A wear indicator also clearly shows when the tips need to be replaced. Careful consideration was also given to the attachment of the grab shells to the center crossbeam, as this leaves sufficient space at the shell pivot point for small materials to fall through. This cleverly prevents unwanted accumulation of material on the grab.
The grab can be equipped with one or two powerful rotary drives, depending on whether higher speed or greater torque is required. A sturdy sheet-metal cover protects them from external influences. SENNEBOGEN also uses high-performance cylinders manufactured in-house, which are well-protected behind rod guards that are easy to remove for servicing.
The fact that special attention was paid to efficiency is evident in both the geometry of the shells and the hydraulic system. Extra-large hydraulic cross-sections ensure the best possible efficiency in daily use. Particular emphasis was placed on achieving the ideal combination of opening speed and closing force when the grab is tightened. The coordinated kinematics and geometry of the shells ensure extremely low-energy movement as well as optimal penetration into the material being handled.
The MG 4.1 is designed for ease of service and requires minimal effort for inspection and maintenance. For example, there are only a few, easily accessible lubrication points; the hose routing is designed for easy maintenance; and service access to the hydraulic connections themselves is also simple. Particularly convenient: QR codes on the respective components provide direct access to the technical documentation or operating instructions when needed. Equally practical for most users is the fact that the metric system is used for all components, allowing standard metric tools to be used.
This customer-friendly service is complemented by the robust after-sales support that the manufacturer is known for. This includes 100% spare parts availability, a highly trained service network, and various maintenance packages, all of which are also available for this SENNEBOGEN product.
The grapple has already been tested for thousands of operating hours and has performed excellently with experienced customers from the recycling and scrap industry:
