Crawler crane as bridge builder: SENNEBOGEN 7700 lifts prefabricated parts weighing up to 100 t

Since the end of 2013 the Russian construction company BaltMostStroy has been using a SENNEBOGEN 7700 crawler crane to build bridges along a new freeway route. The 300 t crawler crane lifts prefabricated parts weighing as much as 100 t onto the concrete foundations.

LLC Lonmadi Saint Petersburg, as Russian Sales and Service Partner, was able to deliver a new SENNEBOGEN 7700 crawler crane in October 2013. The company, BaltMostTroy, founded in 1991, uses the flexible crawler crane for its demanding infrastructure construction measure in Russia. Currently the machine is working on construction of a bridge 800 m in length that is part of the new motorway A121 between St. Petersburg and Priosersk-Sortavala. Equipped with a 41 m boom and auxiliary jib, the 300 t crane lifts steel elements onto the concreted bridge abutments. This requires the utmost precision and is extremely time-intensive, because the machine must be perfectly aligned in order to securely place the chains and straps. The actual lifting then only takes a few minutes. Overall at least 10 additional bridges must be installed in this manner along the route. In this regard the hilly terrain and extreme inclines that must be overcome for machine implementation are particular challenges. Last but not least, the machine must lift parts weighing many tons perfectly horizontal, and position them with millimeter precision. A difficult task for operator and machine, which is safely executed thanks to the sensitive control of the 7700.

The SENNEBOGEN 7700 is equipped with an 8 m wide crawler undercarriage and ballast of 135 t, which gives the machine the necessary stability. A powerful 313 kW Caterpillar diesel engine drives the two 220 kN winches. CEO Arkadij Borisov, who experienced the performance capability of the machine on site was quite impressed. In particular the possibility of moving the crane under load is considered a welcome work facilitation.

The compact uppercarriage of the 7700, with a transport width of 3 m, is the largest component which makes the 300 t crane easy to maneuver and transport. The maximum 2.43 m width of all the boom sections, as well as the Starlifter undercarriage, make transportation easy, even in a container. The booms can be set up in just a few steps thanks to the innovative self-assembly system.

For the driver, the Maxcab comfort cabin, which can be inclined 20 degrees, offers an optimal view of the surroundings. The robust and easy-to-service design of SENNEBOGEN cranes makes maintenance simple and maximizes reliability in day-to-day operation.
