Not all electric models are equal: technologies - from stationary electric to battery

Electro-hydraulic solutions are on the rise in the construction and material handling industry. SENNEBOGEN recognized the potential of the electrification of construction machinery and material handlers early on. The SA28 stationary material handler has been running fully electric at scrap yards since the 80s.

The Scandinavian countries are regarded as pioneers of electromobility in the EU: Here is an electric 875 E material handler with a custom rail gantry in Åhus, Sweden.

Wired solutions have also been used in crane technology for decades, such as in dropball applications; USA.

Electric instead of diesel can be an ideal solution for many applications. But electric machines are a broad field. Technologically, there is therefore no one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, each customer has their own specific requirements, which are considered from an economic and technical perspective, and for which the solution has to be found that is perfectly tailored to the application. SENNEBOGEN has implemented the most electrical applications in the industry by far for 35 years.

Stationary electric machines

Cable power supply

Primarily used when a stationary setup can be easily implemented in process engineering. Wide working area coverage possible thanks to different boom configurations and equipment variants.

Flexible power supply via conductor bars or trailing cables

Cable power supply

Mobility in a comfortable working area, tailored to the respective application through detailed route analysis and project planning. Power supply via uppercarriage or undercarriage, with or without motorized cable reel – depending on the application. Cylindrical reels are suitable for low installation heights and spiral reels for linear routes. Also possible in combination with diesel generator set at the rear, e.g. to enable completely flexible movement for maintenance work.

Electric travel drive for Pick & Carry - Green Efficiency Drive

Not cable-based

Mainly used in day-to-day operations when accelerating, braking and driving under load. The electric travel drive is powered by a generator installed on the diesel engine. The braking energy is also recuperated, which relieves the load on the diesel engine and achieves higher efficiency levels (up to 30%) than with the traditional hydrostatic diesel drive.

Powerpack solutions

Not cable-based

For short-distance mobility with electric drive, for example when repositioning the machine. All work functions of the machine can also be operated
separately via the power pack. Compact machines remain small and maneuverable thanks to their integration into the counterweight.

NEW! Battery-powered electric machines

Two systems in one

The new emission-free, mobile electric material handlers combine the advantages of wireless and wired solutions and ensure unrestricted mobility in electric operation. Connected to the grid, Dual Power Management ensures that the grid power supply is used for work movements, while the surplus power recharges the batteries. If the machine is disconnected from the grid, the system automatically changes over and the machine can work autonomously with the same performance data in battery operation.

“As the first battery-powered models on the market, our battery-powered electric material handlers offer the flexibility to work remotely via the battery and at the same time be able to recharge during use with the existing power supply of industrial operations. It is therefore possible to work a complete shift without having to switch off the machine for charging – a technological milestone for the industry.”
