Since April 2023, Alexander Aumer has served as the Chief Information Officer at SENNEBOGEN, tasked with spearheading the digital transformation within the company. His role extends beyond technical implementation, encompassing strategic considerations, corporate success, and, most importantly, employee engagement. In our interview with Alexander Aumer, we delve into digital challenges and explore how our dealers and customers stand to benefit from this realignment.
Before joining SENNEBOGEN, you gained extensive experience in a corporate environment. What motivated you to assume the position of CIO in a medium-sized family-owned business?
My professional journey spanned eleven years in international automotive suppliers, where I progressed from an IT process consultant to the Head of Quality and Processes IT, overseeing various exciting projects. Among them was the leadership of a project introducing the IT-Service Desk in seven languages across 30 locations within three months. SENNEBOGEN had already caught my attention due to its positive reputation and compelling products in the international context. The company is currently undergoing a fascinating transformation in many areas, particularly with the generational shift serving as a source of inspiration. I am confident that, especially in the realm of IT landscape, we will execute numerous successful projects in the coming years, and I am eagerly looking forward to it. The decisive factor for my career move was the profound discussions with the management beforehand, where I felt a great deal of appreciation, a compelling signal for me.
What is SENNEBOGEN's IT strategy for the upcoming years?
Our IT strategy encompasses various aspects, ranging from accelerating processes to fostering increased agility throughout the entire organization. IT security always remains a top priority. We plan to advance agile project management, train employees in SCRUM, and establish IT development as a partner within the company. To achieve this, we have reorganized our IT department, distinguishing between "IT Infrastructure" and "Strategy and Applications." The goal is to orient ourselves towards service, collaboratively developing systems with the functional areas.
How will our dealers and customers benefit from this digital transformation?
Through our reorganization, we can emphasize efficiency and speed. Our portal "mySENNEBOGEN," an all-in-one platform for various digital services, such as our telematics system SENtrack, is undoubtedly one of the most significant projects for our dealers and customers. Especially in this project, we adopt an agile approach to provide more features in less time. Our goal is to achieve six new releases per year for mySENNEBOGEN. Additionally, we are currently working on exciting innovation topics, including collaboration with a research institute. Topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Maintenance, or Industrial Cloud are increasingly becoming our focus.
Due to the restructuring of the IT department, we are seeking additional colleagues who want to contribute to the strategic change in the IT sector. Which positions are available, and what qualifications should new colleagues bring?
We are currently looking for new colleagues, primarily in the "Strategy and Applications" department. We have introduced the new role of "IT Consultants." In this position, individuals will serve as consultants and contact persons for specific functional areas, ensuring that the technical implementation in various IT projects is ideal. We are seeking motivated computer scientists, business informaticians, or interested career changers with experience in project management, who are eager to shape and immerse themselves in an IT world that is full of innovation. Within the team, we have also addressed topics such as career development, values, and goals. We have defined career paths in IT and set out to develop the IT department "from a tanker to a speedboat."
